Dear Fourth Grade Cardinals,
I am so excited to be your fourth grade teacher this year and to meet you on our first day! I look forward to building a strong, inclusive and safe community with you in the weeks ahead. During our first week, we will spend time doing team-building activities, getting to know each other and learning procedures which will help our classroom community run smoothly.
There are so many things I can't wait to learn about you at the start of the year and here are just a few of those things:
-
your favorite books and/or authors
-
what your favorite subject is
-
what activities you like to do for fun
-
someone you look up to or feel inspired by
-
how you learn best
In case you’re curious about me, here are five fun facts:
-
I am left handed.
-
I love animals (especially sea turtles, dogs and elephants).
-
I have 24 first cousins.
-
In my free time, I am usually reading more than one book at a time because I have so many favorite genres!
-
My favorite food is pizza!
Looking Ahead…
I wanted to let you know that after Labor Day, we will begin to decorate our writers’ notebooks with special pictures of our loved ones. (You may also bring in other pictures that are representative of your favorite places, words, hobbies, passions, etc. An example is a magazine cut-out of a basketball if you love that sport!) These pictures will be used to help you come up with ideas for stories when we write this year.
In order to prepare for this, please start gathering pictures to bring in. We will need them in the classroom on Tuesday, September 5th. Thank you in advance for taking responsibility for coming prepared!
Have a fun and relaxing end to your summer! I will see you on the blacktop on Tuesday.
Take good care,
Ms. O’Brien

Dear Families,
Welcome to 4th Grade at Center School! We hope that you are having a summer that is filled with reading, relaxing, and time for your child to enjoy carefree summer days.
We are so fortunate that Center School has purchased the majority of needed school supplies for your child. However, please purchase the following before the first day of school:
-
1 expandable 5-7 folder (pendaflex folder)
-
1 pencil pouch or pencil box
We will also be asking for a check made out to “Center School” for the Scholastic News Publication, and once the price is finalized we will let you know.
We strongly encourage summer reading in order to keep reading skills sharp and to prevent regression. A 4th Grade skill that will be very important for your child to be efficient with is knowing the multiplication facts through the 12’s tables. Getting a jump-start on this over the summer will be useful to your student in 4th Grade.
We do use Google Classroom and students will complete work on their Chromebooks. The 4th Grade teachers work on balancing an appropriate amount of pencil- paper, hands-on, and digital learning. It is necessary that your child bring their Chromebook and charger to school every day. Getting into the habit of charging devices at home will be necessary. Please place a label or piece of painter’s tape with your child’s name on the base of their charger and on their Chromebook.
We are greatly looking forward to our partnership with you in the year ahead as we work together to support and encourage children on their individual learning journeys, in cultivating their independence, and in excavating their unique skills and talents. We know that together, with strong home-school communication and teamwork, your child will have a successful and wonderful year.
Sincerely,
The Grade 4 Team
